Adam Institute for Democracy and Peace
The Adam Institute for Democracy and Peace is a non-profit organization working to break down stereotypes, enhance understanding of democratic principles and promote peaceful coexistence. Established in 1986, the Adam Institute is currently working with the Israeli Ministry of Education to integrate peace education into the Israeli school curriculum. The Institute also trains young journalists from Israel, Palestine and Jordan in accurate and honest reporting as a mechanism for preventing the perpetuation of stereotypes. Programs working directly with young people include democracy education for young Jewish and Arab Israeli, Palestinian and Jordanian leaders, the Promises program to breakdown stereotypes between Jewish and Arab high school students and democracy education for Jewish and Arab elementary students in northern Israel. The Adam Institute’s International Center for Education for Democracy was founded in 1992 to promote networking, the exchange of research and workshop opportunities for Israeli and international educators.
