As a result of Military Operation Region in Aceh there were lots of human rights violations to the civil community. Realizing this condition, the Legal Aid Foundation in Jakarta considered it important to set up an institution working in legal aid in Banda Aceh in order to defend the interest of civil community whose rights are being neglected. Founded on November 30, 1996 this foundation is intended to defend the legal rights of the oppressed civil society. The main activities of this foundation are gender, law, environment, human rights, democracy, informal sector and labor issue. All those activities are carried out in the form of community development and assistance as well as advocacy. This foundation has organized various discussions and provided advocacy for several cases, especially the human rights violations in Aceh. It participates in Regional Forum of NGOs of Aceh and WALHI Aceh. At national level it is a member of the Indonesian Legal Aid Foundation. Former address: Jalan Teungku Chik Pantee Kulu Lt.
