Zambia Independent Media Association
The Zambia Independent Media Association
(ZIMA) is a non-governmental organisation dedicated to promoting media freedom
and diversity in Zambia. It is the Zambian chapter of the Media Institute
of Southern Africa (see entry MISA), based in Windhoek, Namibia. ZIMA collects
information and monitors developments and problems facing the media in the
region. As part of MISA, it establishes links with similar organisations within
and outside the country including the labour movement, human rights and related
groups for the purposes of cooperation and solidarity. To broaden the knowledge
of media workers, ZIMA encourages debates on media related issues and organises
meetings and seminars. ZIMA undertakes these projects in order to assist to
the development of independent and community media.
