Southern Africa
The NSJ Trust is an independent media training
institute based in Mozambique but owned by the Forum for African Media Women
in the SADC (FAMW-SADC), the Media Institute of Southern Africa (MISA), Southern
African Broadcasting Association (SABA), World Association for Community Radio
Stations in Africa (AMARC-Africa) and associated journalism schools in the
SADC and Nordic regions. The NSJ Trust was formerly known as the Nordic-SADC
Journalism Centre as it was established under a bilateral agreement between
the governments of Mozambique representing the Southern African Development
Community and Denmark representing the Nordic countries. The trust is a regional
organisation dedicated to the provision of advanced training for personnel
in various types of media, especially the independent and community media.
Since 1994 the NSJ Trust has provided training in various media skills in
areas such as gender sensitivity in journalism, the media and democracy, media
ethics, reporting politics, economy, elections and minorities investigative
skills, new technologies, community journalism, and starting and managing
community radio stations.
