Indonesia
The British Council in Indonesia aims to
support media professionalism and access to information to assist in the democratisation
process, and promote good governance, basic rights, conflict transformation
and peacebuilding, thereby strengthening the role of civil society. The British
Council Indonesia works to strengthen the media and its reporting of conflict,
pluralism and basic rights, through the adoption of a conflict resolution
approach, and respect for a code of conduct and a code of ethics. Other objectives
are to facilitate the access and flow of quality information between the government
and civil society, in order to promote transparent and accountable governance,
as a means of fighting corruption. And to facilitate the adoption of an alternative
media approach as a means of empowering the role and participation of civil
society.
