(a) Baltic Media Centre

As an independent non-profit foundation, the Baltic Media Centre promotes democracy, peaceful international cooperation and social development through an active participation of the media. The BMC manages a number of peacebuilding projects in, particularly, Southeast Europe, Afghanistan and for many years also in the Baltic states and Russia. The BMC provides regional, national and in-house training of media professionals, initiation of international co-productions across conflict barriers, funding, media policy and legal advice for governments and media as well as expert consultancies, networking and other services for radio, television and independent production companies. This is done with the specific intention of strengthening the international cooperation between different media and to support it’s contribution in the democratic process.

(b) International Media Support

The mission of the IMS is to enhance peace, stability, democracy, freedom of expression and pluralism of the press in conflict and conflict-threatened areas through rapid assistance to media practitioners and media institutions. This is achieved through rapid interventions to promote and strengthen press freedom and professional journalism and to improve the working conditions of local journalists and media practitioners. The aim is to allow the population in endangered areas to exercise their right to express themselves freely - also in times of crisis. The main approach includes audits/identification missions to assess needs, pro-active and timely support to media and media professionals in conflict areas, establishing links with longer-term development agencies, and gathering of experiences and “lessons learned” in the field of media support
